On Planets Begins New Chapter with “Don’t Think So Hard”

The Vancouver-based producer, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist On Planets has made his debut on bitbird with new track, “Don’t Think So Hard.” This single introduces a new musical direction for him that explores the connection between electronic and indie music.
On Planets typically focused on producing electronic music until just recently. He lost direction for a short period of time in 2018, worried it would mark the end of his music career. He took a break in order to discover his true creative self. While known mainly for his electronic productions, On Planets has evolved more into indie music with 2020 singles, “S.I.H,” “From No Height,” and “Context.” “Don’t Think So Hard” fully completes the transition as it marks a new beginning. Between the organic guitars, layered electronic sounds, and the beautiful vocal with well-written lyrics, this catchy alternative pop song is placed perfectly in the middle of electronic and indie music.
“I made aimless music, exploring the curled edges of my musical lexicon, and I built my home studio up with random second-hand gear and DIY kits that I wired up myself. I played string parts for my friends’ albums, co-produced indie folk music, and played in a band for the first time since high school. I fell in love with quiet music full of texture, and juxtapositions of raw and refined: abstract, ineffable things that feel oddly informative and comforting amongst the absurdity of modern life.” -On Planets
After a handful of new and unique releases, On Planets is leaving fans curious to hear what will come next. A new chapter has been opened for this rising artist and it will certainly continue to grow even more.
“The title of this song is a phrase I often find myself giving as advice to others, despite that I’m notorious for overthinking and rarely practice what I preach. In creating the song, the irony was overwhelming at times as I re-worked and re-re-worked everything from the mix to the title. DTSH is a reminder not to constantly stunt your own progress with aimless perfectionism.” -On Planets
