Idris Elba Signs to Defected Records

Idris Elba, one of North America’s highest-grossing actors, is leveling up his love dance music after signing a multi-single deal with Defected, EDM.com’s best record label of 2022. Under his newly formed IDRIS alias, the Hollywood talent will release across both Defected and D4 D4NCE. The announcement arrives hot off the heels of Elba’s remix of Fish Go Deep and Tracey K’s “The Cure & The Cause,” which released in celebration of Defected’s 25th anniversary.

Elba had performed at a handful of Defected’s international events, including parties at Miami Music Week and Manchester’s The Warehouse Project in 2023. The pact with Defected is a pivotal moment in Elba’s DJing and production career, providing a venerable platform for a number of upcoming singles, which will release under his IDRIS alias across Defected and its D4 D4NCE sub-label. The British icon’s first solo track with the label, “La Trumpeta,” is scheduled to release on March 8th. “La Trumpeta” showcases his signature global sound in full force; a powerful Latin trumpet solo dominates, signaling the arrival of pounding four on the floor breakdowns that have major club appeal.
