Following his massive debut album, Lavender God on mau5trap, ATTLAS AKA Jeff Hartford, has returned to the label with his second LP in a year, Out Here With You. This collection is filled with deeply emotional and progressively in-tune tracks, making it his biggest release to date.
ATTLAS provides listeners with a breath of fresh air in this album through motifs of positivity even during life’s lowest points. The timing of the release is perfect as it reflects on the most unprecedented moments of 2020. Musically, it is a harmonious blend of the producer’s intricate production style. Each build and release is special in its execution and represents a constant beam of hope.
The introductory track, “Morning Fields” opens up this narrative by showcasing uplifting synths that lead into the sincere “Polar Concept” which uses the same spoken vocals that were in the intro while making everything soar melodically. In “Uour” fluttering sounds similar to a heartbeat keep the pace consistent while “Seabreeze” provides a contrasting bounce. That fifth track blends seamlessly into ‘When We Were the Same” which is a textured track with a catchy kick.
There are so many lush soundscapes heard throughout, and “In a Cloud” also features an old-timey spoken word opening that quickly shifts into a swelling instrumental filled with guitar riffs. On the other hand, “Ponds” is quite reflective and shows ATTLAS fusing his introspective nature into electronic harmonies and raw piano melodies. To alternate from the sparkling synths and deep bass, “Mgt” is an out-of-this-world track that transports listeners, while the final single “Out There with You” is a ten-minute immersive experience tune.
“‘Out Here With You’ is a chance to catch my breath amidst this all. Calmer and more hopeful; it is the result of the small areas of positivity we can still control this year, like fresh air and adventures with my best friend. This album is as much for and about her and us as it is all of us. If there’s a helplessness you feel, I’m out here with you and likewise these hopeful melodies are a reflection of simple rays of light that shine through the smallest of cracks during this dark time.” -ATTLAS
