The British DJ and producer with Indian roots, TroyBoi, has officially released his latest single, “Kabhi”. A heartfelt tribute to his Indian culture, the track features the most revered playback singer in the country’s history, Lata Mangeshkar and is a harmonious fusion of culture and sound – arriving via Ultra Records alongside the announcement and official countdown
of his highly-anticipated upcoming EP, Rootz.

“Growing up, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghum was played on repeat in our home. My mum is
Indian, and through her, I was immersed in the richness of Indian culture — the music, the stories, the colors, the emotion. Sampling this piece wasn’t just a creative decision; it was a way to honor a voice that shaped my childhood and pay tribute to a cultural icon whose artistry continues to inspire the world. Lata Mangeshkar was not just a legendary singer, but a soul who defined the sound of Indian cinema for generations. She’s often called the nightingale of India, but to me, her voice feels like memory itself timeless, emotional, and deeply spiritual. This is my small offering to that legacy.”
– Troyboy

Hard-hitting yet ethereal, the track is a masterful blend of seemingly dissimilar elements, resulting in an undeniably transcendent sound that embarks listeners on a sonic journey like no other. Surreal and satisfying, “Kabhi” seamlessly fuses past and present, with hauntingly melodic vocals from The Nightingale of India gliding effortlessly through TroyBoi’s clever yet crisp trap beats. Ride the wave that is “Kabhi”.

Paying homage to the rich cultural tapestry of his past, the track arrives as the second from TroyBoi’s upcoming EP, Rootz, a five-track journey through culture and time with a sound that resonates globally. Hot on the heels of “Masala”, the release of “Kabhi” marks the beginning of the countdown to Rootz, officially arriving on Friday, September 19.
