ZHU Releases BLACK MIDAS DLXZZZ with New Songs “SUNDOWN” & “THE CALLING

Following the success of his latest album BLACK MIDAS, electronic music artist ZHU expands this project into BLACK MIDAS DLXZZZ. In addition to the standard tracklisting of BLACK MIDAS released earlier this spring, the deluxe version includes two previously released singles, “3 AM IN ??????” and “SMOKE UP IN THE AIR,” as well as two brand new tracks “SUNDOWN” and “THE CALLING” – the latter of which serves as a focus track and comes alongside a new video featuring ZHU filmed in wintery Alaska.

ZHU (Steven Zhu) is one of a handful of performers and songwriters in the genre who continue to push boundaries in many forms of art beyond club and music festival culture. Creating concepts and atmospheric experiences for fans, both sonically and in real life, ZHU relentlessly demonstrates a fearless pursuit to evolve today’s music through his artistic vision. It’s techno as an attitude. On his latest project BLACK MIDAS, he returns to his roots, creating an album of compelling dancefloor tracks and now he offers his fans more with the DLXZZZ version.

For BLACK MIDAS, the GRAMMY Nominated producer and DJ transports listeners into a different world by creating tracks around late night narratives through sounds, emotions, words and energy he encountered on his 2025 cross country journey in a Mercedes Sprinter Van after he was displaced by the Southern California Palisades wildfire. In the fire, his land burned and his neighborhood was decimated yet his house and studio structures were spared, although uninhabitable from smoke damage. He spent the entire next year rebuilding everything he had known, including his music. With no home base or studio, he produced music on the road accessing different parts of the country and artists he approached online to create his most recent album and accompanying nightlife warehouse concept, BLACKLIZT. It was a true return to his original dance club roots.

The productions range from deep house to melodic techno as heard on the first single “BLACK MIDAS” and feature collaborations with an array of underground and emerging artists including Joyia on “BURN” and South Africa’s GCBestBelieve and HNTR on “LEVELZZZ”– crowned “…sexy and darkly chugging…” by Billboard. There’s also “5STARRR,” ZHU’s play on R&B duo THEY. infectious “5 Star,” as well as works with Mahmut Orhan and ZONLY.

Beyond being a DJ and producer, ZHU is a live performer, singer and instrumentalist. He delivers indelible live shows and sets using his keen production ability, voice, sleek synth melodies, billowing basslines, and undeniable hooks to create a hypnotic experience that is all-at-once sultry and sinister. To support BLACK MIDAS, this past spring ZHU returned to Ultra Music Festival for the first time since his debut in 2017 with an unforgettable presentation for BLACK MIDAS complete with the artist ‘in the round’ surrounded by mannequins and the stage set on fire. He also performed at SXSW and toured several dates in Australia and Alaska. Fans can find him across Europe at Audioriver Festival in Poland, London, Ibiza and Tomorrowland in Belgium, among other destinations. He will also be doing a round of ON THE MOVE special appearances in the US later this summer into the fall with appearances confirmed in El Paso, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Austin and more.
