Ministry of Sound has reunited with Alpha Industries and artist Chemical X for a limited-edition bomber jacket that brings together three names connected by the club’s history. Launching at Dover Street Market during Frieze Week, the special edition comprises just 35 hand-numbered and signed jackets, available exclusively in the London store.

“We’re incredibly excited to collaborate with Alpha Industries and Dover Street Market, two iconic names in their own right. As we celebrate 35 years of Ministry of Sound, it felt important not just to look back at our history, but to create something new that becomes part of it.

Bringing together Chemical X, the designer of our original logo, and Alpha Industries, who produced our original MA-1 bomber jackets, makes this a real full-circle moment. With just 35 jackets available exclusively at Dover Street Market, we’ve created something special that celebrates our heritage while marking a new chapter in Ministry of Sound’s story.” – Caitlin McAllister (Managing Director at Ministry of Sound)

In 1991, Ministry of Sound commissioned Alpha Industries to produce MA-1 bomber jackets for its doormen, featuring the now-iconic logo designed by artist Chemical X. Never available to buy, the jackets became closely associated with the club and a sought-after piece of its early identity.

“We’ve done a lot of collaborations over the years This one stood out because nobody had to invent a story. Ministry of Sound really customised Alpha jackets to make the original staff jackets. Chemical X really did create the original logo. Dover Street Market is the right place to launch it today. Those connections already existed. We just brought them back together.” – Alpha Industries

More than three decades later, Ministry of Sound has reunited with Alpha Industries and Chemical X to revisit the original design through a limited-edition release of 35 bomber jackets. Each jacket features bespoke embroidery by Chemical X, drawing on the evolution of the Ministry of Sound logo, and is individually signed and numbered. The collection launches exclusively at Dover Street Market during Frieze Week.

The launch coincides with the release of Ministry of Sound (Anthology), a new book by author and creative director Simon Moore, published by Rizzoli New York. Documenting the club’s first 35 years, the book brings together first-hand accounts from founders, DJs, dancers, designers and staff, alongside previously unpublished photography and an archive of flyers, records, tickets and other ephemera.

Landing alongside the bomber and book, Moore has designed a series of T-shirts drawing on ephemera from the club’s storied history. Graphics include a pre-opening business card bearing the club’s working title, a flyer for a mid-1990s three-city Japan tour that included Tokyo’s Liquid Room, and the operating manual for the Urei rotary mixer installed when Ministry first opened. The material comes from the personal collections of founder Justin Berkmann and former resident DJ CJ Mackintosh. The T-shirts are available online and in store at both Ministry of Sound and Dover Street Market.

The limited-edition bomber jackets are available exclusively at Dover Street Market for £275.
