Thomas Gold Exclusive Interview: The DJ/Producer Is Dropping New ‘Revelation: Pt 1’ Album

German-born DJ/Producer Thomas Gold has taken the dance music community by storm. At the young age of 15 he purchased his first piece of equipment, and the rest is history. Gold began making music inspired by trance, techno, electro, and tribal sounds among others, developing his sound into what it has become today.

In 2006 and the next few years to follow, he unleashed progressive house records to the world. The first he dropped was his collaborative Paintbootiqa EP out via the Mauritius label with DJ Björn Mandry. After that came a variety of releases on Haiti Groove Recordings, Ministry of Sound, and other similar oriented labels to his sound.

International travel and performances were of course next in the lineup for Gold’s success. His talents took him to the main stages at Tomorrowland and Creamfields, as well as Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, Mysteryland, Coachella, and many more of the world’s top festivals. He has dominated the club scene, taking over venues such as LIV, Story, Ushuaia, Privilege, Amnesia, Pacha, and several times even New York’s Governor’s Island and the Roseland Ballroom.

The Nocturnal Times recently spoke with the ambitious producer, and discussed Miami Music Week, upcoming shows and plans for new music, recent singles, and his latest album, Revelation: Pt 1. Read all about it in our exclusive interview with Thomas Gold.

The Nocturnal Times: We’re fresh off Music Week in Miami. What were some of your MMW highlights this year?

Thomas Gold: Playing my own show at Heart Club with a bunch of guest DJs. We went from 11 until 6 in the morning and it was awesome! Also fun was playing the Armada invite event and doing a crazy rooftop party on the 50th floor, when even the heavy rain wouldn’t keep the crowd from rockin! And I loved going out for dinner – you get the best Ceviche in Miami!

The Nocturnal Times: Since we last spoke you released the first part of your album, ‘Revelation: Pt 1’ through Armada Music. How does it feel to have some of the new music finally released?

Thomas Gold: It feels great! I have been working on the album for 15 months and finally I can show the people what I have been cooking in the studio…And as I went for a completely new musical approach with the album, I am super excited to see the fans’ reactions – so far the feedback has been amazing.

The Nocturnal Times: Where did the inspiration behind the album title come from?

Thomas Gold: I named the album ‘Revelation’ because it’s about showing the ‘other’ Thomas Gold. It is different from anything else I have released in the past, but many of the ideas for the songs on the album have been flying around in my head for a while. So finally I can ‘reveal’ some of them. And as it’s named ‘part 1’, there will be of course part 2. Very soon with more completely new songs.

The Nocturnal Times: Your newest tracks, “Sanctuary” and “Survive” were just released. What can you share with us about these latest creations?

Thomas Gold: We wrote ‘Survive’ in my studio in Berlin. Ida Hallquist (the singer) flew in and we had a great 2 day writing session together. The production is very ‘pop’ with an uplifting vibe, yet it is still danceable. ‘Sanctuary’ is way deeper and mellow and I love those kind of songs. The vocal inspired me immediately when I started the production. ‘Sanctuary’ is one of my personal favorites from the whole album production process, it is a track just to sit back and relax while listening. And there will definitely be more like this coming up for the next part of the album.

The Nocturnal Times: Do you have any plans for which album tracks you’d like as forthcoming singles?

Thomas Gold: So far, 3 tracks from the album have been released as singles (‘Saints & Sinners’, ‘Better Versions Of Myself’ and ‘Magic’).

The next single release will be a brand new tune and it will be the lead track of the album part 2. I am currently finishing the single and the other tracks to be included in the album and I can tell you – I’m excited…

The Nocturnal Times: What can you share with us about what to expect from ‘Revelation: Pt 2”?

Thomas Gold: You can expect more brand new songs, following the vibe of part 1. Besides the single I will include more stuff to ‘reveal’ what is going on in Thomas Gold’s musical world and you can expect something different. Again.

The Nocturnal Times: You’ll make your NYC return on April 15 at Marquee. What are you looking forward to for this gig?

Thomas Gold: It’s my first time playing at Marquee – I have been there as a guest and we always had a great time, so I can’t wait to play and enjoy it from the other side of the booth…and I know that the NYC crowd always is great!

The Nocturnal Times: What do you look forward to most when returning to the Big Apple? What are some of your favorite types of food to eat in the city?

Thomas Gold: New York City is one of my absolute favorite cities in the world – be it for the vibe, the club scene or the people. I just love to be here, NYC can be so inspiring. Food wise I love to explore all those cool spots, last time a friend took us to a place called ‘Fette Sau’ in Brooklyn, a super cool BBQ spot. Let’s see where it takes me this time…

The Nocturnal Times: Which other shows are you looking forward to playing this year?

Thomas Gold: Apart from finishing off my ‘Revelation’ tour with some more shows in the US this month, I can’t wait for the summer and festival season to start, I have some great shows lined up already

The Nocturnal Times: Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Thomas Gold: Still Making loads of music, releasing more albums and traveling the world for my live shows. I can’t think of anything else 🙂
