SUPER COMPUTER Drops Debut EP, ‘ORDINATEUR’
Mysterious DJ and Producer duo SUPER COMPUTER, the first electronic signing to Oliver Tree’s enigmatic label, Alien Boy Records, has released its genre-blending six-track debut EP, ORDINATEUR. Led by the new single, “PLEASE COME BACK,” the unique project spans a wide variety of genres including techno, house, bass, industrial, trap and dance music.
Fans were originally introduced to the enigmatic duo when SUPER COMPUTER appeared on Oliver Tree’s track and music video for the bouncy and funky love song, “Essence,” from his September 2023 LP Alone In A Crowd. Led by an extremely catchy hook, the single quickly accumulated over 20 million streams and had fans craving more from the mysterious duo. The group had their inaugural live performance at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in June.
Only identifying themselves as X&Y, SUPER COMPUTER have a rather unique origin story. With rumors flying around the internet speculating their identity, they’ve explained in their own words:
“SUPER COMPUTER was formed after we met in 2011 working for an international hacktivist group. Due to the sensitive nature of our roles in exposing corruption; and bringing down corporate figureheads, politicians, and government institutions for the past 15 years; we are unable to disclose our identities. We cannot share where we live nor our birthplaces for obvious reasons, but the music we made for this project was created over the past 4 years. During that time, we were seeking asylum in undisclosed locations throughout Europe, where we have been protected under the International human rights law. Outside of being hacktivists, we both have backgrounds in computer engineering. We also share an unhealthy obsession for computers, and a passion for producing techno, house, bass, industrial, trap and all types of electronic dance music.” – X&Y SUPER COMPUTER
With the added seal of approval from critically-acclaimed DJ and producer Whethan, the demand for SUPER COMPUTER was at a fever pitch when they debuted their first song and lead single of the EP, ORDINATEUR, on October 6 as the first electronic signing and release to Oliver Tree’s Alien Boy Records. Packed with gritty bleeping synths and driving rhythms, “ORDINATEUR” was the punchy electro anthem that placed the duo firmly on people’s radars.
This was followed by the EP’s second single “CYBER PHONK” on November 17, which explores the rapidly growing Phonk genre with a slew of pitch-shifting cowbells and trap-inspired breakdowns, resulting in a perfect fusion of electronic and hip-hop influences. Known for its mellow, hypnotic beats, Phonk has rapidly spawned some of the country’s largest music trends across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, melding together 90’s underground Memphis Rap with a dark, electric house twist.
SUPER COMPUTER released their third single, “WELCOME TO HELL,” on February 16. With a heavy, driving beat, the single incorporates some heavy metal influences like electric guitar into a mid tempo genre-blending bass experience complete with breakdowns and tempo switches that makes for an unpredictably exciting listening experience.
Now, their first EP, ORDINATEUR, is out with three new songs including the focus single, “PLEASE COME BACK.” The offering on the project with the most mainstream appeal, the new single offers a catchy, pitched-up chorus and intricate melody that fits perfectly within their Internet theme. Set somewhere between making you want to twerk and headbang, “EARTHQUAKE” is set to be a fan favorite on festival floors with its bass-filled and trap-inspired production.
