Modestep Announces New Album ‘Give Up The Ghost’ with Single “Bodybag”
Trailblazing UK electronic act Modestep charges into a bold new era with his latest single “Bodybag”, a driving, synth-laced anthem that ushers in the announcement of his long-awaited new album, Give Up The Ghost. A long-anticipated follow-up to his album release a decade ago, the stunning reinvention of a record sees Modestep fusing his trademark bass-heavy energy with fresh inspiration from drum & bass, synthwave, early dubstep, and dystopian storytelling.
“I had been trying to make 140bpm music that moves into new territory while also maintaining the vibe of dubstep that I first fell in love with, his sound captures everything I love about this genre, and nods to very early Modestep that consisted of more deep and wobbly sounds with a strong vocal melody at the front. Everything from the sound design, drums to the vocals all hint at our new darker and melodic approach to writing Modestep music.” – Modestep
“Bodybag” leans into Modestep’s darker evolution — a bass-heavy roller that fuses guttural synthwave grit with the raw energy of early 2000’s dubstep. Built around a driving 140BPM groove, the track layers wailing leads, thick analog textures, and punchy drums soaked in reverb, nodding to Modestep’s roots while pushing the sound into new territory. Just as it locks into a hypnotic rhythm, the track erupts into a blistering drum & bass finale — a switch-up that melts faces and reinforces Modestep’s commitment to breaking genre boundaries without losing their edge. It’s a sound that bridges eras—echoing the raw, weighty textures of early dubstep, but sharpened by contemporary production and intent. “Bodybag” is out now on all mayor streaming platforms.
Alongside the single, Modestep is officially announcing Give Up The Ghost, his first full-length album in a decade. Thematically rooted in the rise of artificial intelligence and its impact on human creativity, the album imagines a world where AGI replaces human artists, and the emotional fallout that follows. With his signature blend of drum & bass, dubstep, rock, and live instrumentation, Modestep delivers a conceptually rich and sonically explosive experience.
