Hostage Situation Releases Sophomore Album ‘Hostile Frequencies’
Denver-based electronic music trio Hostage Situation marks the defining moment of their meteoric rise with the release of their sophomore album Hostile Frequencies. The 20-track opus represents the culmination of their rapid ascent from local Denver heroes to nationally recognized headliners, delivering a comprehensive sonic journey that showcases the full breadth of their “crowd hostage” artistry.
Hostile Frequencies serves as both manifesto and showcase, demonstrating why Hostage Situation has become one of the most talked-about emerging acts in bass music. The album seamlessly weaves together the heavy-hitting dubstep and riddim foundations that first captured attention with the emotionally-driven elements and bass house explorations that have set them apart from their peers.
The album builds upon the foundation established by the trio’s successful single campaign, featuring previously released tracks “Burn For You,” “The Device,” and “Panic Attack” alongside 18 additional compositions that reveal new dimensions of their sound. Standout collaborations include “Problem” featuring Dream Takers and Fraxure and “Skoolin” with Chibs, while tracks like “Freak It” and “GO NUTZ” showcase their ability to craft both festival anthems and intimate moments with equal precision.
“This album represents everything we’ve been working toward since we formed in 2021. We wanted to create an experience that goes beyond just dubstep or riddim – something that shows the full range of what Hostage Situation can be.” – Hostage Situation
The diversity of Hostile Frequencies reflects the trio’s eclectic influences, which span from M83 to Subtronics to Pink Floyd, creating a unique sonic palette that defies easy categorization. Tracks like the vocal-driven “Seen It All (Feat. MACY)” demonstrate their willingness to push boundaries, while bass house offerings like “Panic Attack” and “Dancefloor Fire” showcase their evolution beyond their dubstep origins.
Hostile Frequencies arrives as Hostage Situation continues their extensive ‘Hostile Frequencies’ Tour, with the album’s diverse tracks already proving their worth in live settings. Since launching in Columbus, OH in August, the tour has reinforced their reputation for creating immersive experiences that literally take crowds hostage, with sold-out shows in Harrisburg, Fort Collins, Boulder, and a standout festival performance at DANCEFESTOPIA. Recent stops in Minneapolis and Rochester have showcased the album tracks to enthusiastic crowds ahead of the official release.
With upcoming dates spanning the West Coast including Seattle and San Francisco, plus major markets like Las Vegas, Toronto, Detroit, and Philadelphia through December, the tour demonstrates the trio’s evolution into legitimate national headliners. The extensive routing includes stops at premier venues like VICE in Seattle, Gods & Monsters in San Francisco, Palais Royale in Toronto, and Warehouse on Watts in Philadelphia.
