Yahoo Inc. revealed at its 2015 Digital Content New Front, the start of a global electronic music competition-style live series, Ultimate DJ, which will be available through its Live, Digital Magazine and Original video programming.
In search of the next big out in electronic music, Ultimate DJ will showcase acts from across the world. Airing on Yahoo Live with voting available through Tumblr, the contest winner will earn the title of Ultimate DJ and have the opportunity to headline a major electronic music festival and score a record contract with the globally acclaimed Ultra Records and Sony Music.
Created by Syco Entertainment and executively produced by Simon Cowell, Ultra Records’ Patrick Moxey, and Kelly Belldegrun of Syco Entertainment, the Ultimate DJ competition is co-produced by Syco Entertainment and Done and Dusted. Ian Stewart will executive produce as well Hamish Hamilton, who will also serve as executive director.
Simon Cowell originally set out to find the next American Idol and with electronic dance music and DJs reaching new heights North America, it’s only fitting for start of the industry mogul’s next big venture. Cowell explains, “I have always been excited to be involved in a show where you have the chance to discover a star. And to do that, I know from experience you need great partners and the rest will follow. We’re excited to be partnering with Patrick Moxey of Ultra Records and Hamish Hamilton of Done and Dusted to bring this series to Yahoo.”
“Ultra Records has broken many of the biggest electronic artists of today and we’re thrilled to be a part of this series with Yahoo, Simon Cowell and Hamish Hamilton to bring the newest sounds and emerging electronic artists to a massive audience,” said Patrick Moxey of Ultra Records.
Hamish Hamilton of Done and Dusted said, “I love nothing more than capturing the energy of a live event. Now with Ultimate DJ we’ll send that excitement around electronic music around the world. This is something that could only exist online, something truly innovative.”
