Sliding swiftly right in before the close of 2018, Pavel Khvaleev debuts his sophomore LP, Sonder. The ex-member and founder of Moonbeam delivers the record as a continuation of his life’s work: breaking down the barrier between what we hear and what we see.
With insightful messaging carefully intertwined within its tracks, Pavel expresses through Sonder the conceptual realization that each random person passing us lives an existence every bit as real and intricate as our own. Through Sonder, Pavel takes listeners deep into a sonic exploration of unchartered territory.
Re-centering his work beside many of Moonbeam’s long-established cohorts, Pavel shares collaborations beside the likes of Avis Vox, Blackfeel Wite, Loolacoma, Sopheary, Jacob A on his latest project. These vets of the group’s 10-year-run express their talents on Sonder, contributing to the singing and songwriting divisions of the expressive work. Beyond his circle of devoted contributors, Pavel explores newfound relationships like pairings with UK duo RINNGS, Polish composer producer and multi-instrumentalist Olga Wojciechowska, and J-Pop sensation LIA.
The 20-track album is divided equally into two discs, splitting the vocal and instrumental compositions. Disc 1 takes a transcendent and tranquil approach, while Disc 2 packs a clubbier feel. Proving to be both an audio and visual spectacle, Sonder brings accompanying videos to enhance the overall listening experience and provide an escape to the non physical dimension. See for yourself by diving deep into the mystifying one below for “Videos”:
Sonder paves an ethereal path towards enlightenment, where even the song titles make you feel a divine type of way. From “The Star” to “Dark Angel” to “Visions,” “Indigo,” and our personal favorite “Nocturnal,” we channel a deeper meaning through the introspective, spiritual, and abstract.
