Australian-Japanese power-duo Lastlings finally released the long-awaited final remixes for their album First Contact last week and impressive is an understatement. Released on both Astralwerk Records and RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenue records, lo-fi pioneer jamesjamesjames and rising-star GURPAAL deliver lovely re-works of “Visions” and “Held Under.” Available now in its entirety on all streaming platforms, First Contact: The Remixes transports listeners to a dreamy re-imagination of the all-embracing original album.

Originally hailing from Beverly Hills, jamesjamesjames has emerged at the forefront of electronic music with his unique genre-crossing lo-fi sounds mixed with melodic undertones. His remix of “Visions” brings the album a late-night masterpiece that is sure to impress listeners across the globe. Staying true to his nostalgic sound, comes a piece that sheds new light on the original song and lyrics. Giving all the feels within the nine-minute track, the producer does a magical job of reimagining this emotion-filled track with heavy percussion and light lo-fi synths. With his recently released remix of Ben Böhmer and Panama’s “Weightless” reaching over a million streams to date, jamesjamesjames is surely making a name for himself this year.

A darker and heavier insight to the album is brought about by Brisbane-based GURPAAL with his remix of “Held Under.” Keeping the original track’s huge build-up, the producer turns the tune into a massive electronic release that is sure to see some festivals this year. With larger-than-life synths and deeper bass, the remix not only pays tribute to the original but brings a brand new vision to life. GURPAAL’s heavy-hitting debut single “Dawn” was released on Triple J and quickly made the #1 spot within a week. “Held Under” is his second major release, and it absolutely does not disappoint. With a two-for-two record, the DJ is definitely one to watch in the coming months.

Alongside an acoustic EP of their hit tracks, comes reimagined sounds by CRi, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Torren Foot, LP Giobbi, and now jamesjamesjames and GURPAAL. Available now via Astralwerk Records and Rose Avenue Records, the newest remixes of “Visions” and “Held Under” complete this massive album with two beautiful cherries on top.
